The highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to offer a massive prize pool of US$6.9 million, marking a 53% increase from the previous edition in 2017. The tournament will commence on February 19 in Karachi, with the final scheduled for March 9.
Prize Money Breakdown:
- Winners: $2.24 million
- Runners-up: $1.12 million
- Losing semi-finalists: $560,000 each
- 5th & 6th placed teams: $350,000 each
- 7th & 8th placed teams: $140,000 each
- Each match win (Group stage): $34,000+
- Participation fee for all teams: $125,000 each
ICC Chair Jay Shah emphasized that this increased prize money highlights ICC’s commitment to the global development of cricket. He stated, “Beyond the financial incentive, this tournament ignites fierce competition, captivates fans worldwide, and plays a vital role in fostering the sport’s long-term sustainability.”
Tournament Format & Schedule
The eight-team tournament will feature two groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. The tournament will be hosted in Pakistan, marking the first ICC event in the country since the 1996 World Cup. However, India’s matches will be played in Dubai due to travel restrictions.
India’s Group Stage Matches (Dubai):
- vs Bangladesh – February 20
- vs Pakistan – February 23
- vs New Zealand – March 2
If India qualifies for the knockouts, their semi-final (March 4) and potential final will also be played in Dubai.
Future of Champions Trophy
The ICC Champions Trophy will continue as an eight-team event held every four years. Additionally, the first-ever Women’s Champions Trophy is set to debut in 2027 in the T20 format.
