Former Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka is expected to be appointed as the national team’s vice captain for the upcoming T20 Tri-Series in Pakistan, where Charith Asalanka will lead the side.
Sri Lanka has not operated with an official vice captain in recent tours, but selectors are now set to reinstate the role to strengthen the team’s leadership structure. Shanaka, one of the most experienced T20 players in the squad, has emerged as the frontrunner due to his proven captaincy record and seniority.
The squad is currently conducting training sessions at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota. Officials selected the venue due to persistent rainfall in other parts of the island and its batting-friendly conditions, which are expected to closely match those in Pakistan.
Before the T20 competition, Sri Lanka will engage in a three-match ODI series against Pakistan starting November 11. Zimbabwe will later join the two nations for the Tri-Series.
The Sri Lankan team is scheduled to leave for Pakistan on November 7.
