Pathirana Ruled Out of T20 World Cup

Sri Lanka fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana has been ruled out of the remainder of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a left calf strain. However, an official confirmation from Sri Lanka Cricket is still pending.

The injury setback has forced selectors to reassess their options ahead of the crucial Super Eight stage.

Replacement Options

Left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka is currently the frontrunner to replace Pathirana. Meanwhile, Binura Fernando and Nuwan Thushara are also in contention.

All-rounder Milan Rathnayake remains another strong option, offering valuable lower-order batting support alongside his seam bowling skills.

Hasaranga Return Under Discussion

Sri Lanka are also exploring the possibility of bringing back star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga into the squad. Although he is yet to fully recover from his hamstring injury, discussions are ongoing regarding a potential return later in the tournament.

With their final group-stage match effectively a dead rubber, Sri Lanka have some breathing space to evaluate their squad before making a final decision ahead of the Super Eight stage.
